Sports are generally known for their uncanny ability to utilize teamwork on the field. Without that cohesion, games become more difficult to win; runs, goals, and scores become harder to come by; and resentment builds. But what the Valley High School (Ca.) baseball team did last Wednesday took teamwork to a whole other level.
During their last practice of the season, the Valley High baseball club heard screams coming from the parking lot. When they looked over, they saw a mother accidentally back her car up over her daughter, pinning her to the ground. Understanding the severity of the situation, the 16 varsity and junior varsity members rushed over to lift the car and the girl to safety.
According to the Elk Grove Patch, head coach Brett Sawyer knew his guys would rise to the occasion.
"To be honest, we might not have the best baseball team around, but we sure do have a great group of guys," Sawyer said. "They just knew what to do. They were all raised right."
There is no doubt this baseball team saved this young girl's life.
